Position Description - Senior School

Our Position: 

Xavier College is opening up an Expression of Interest for two Diverse Learning Assistants - one at the Senior School and one at the Junior School - Burke Hall.

This position will make a significant contribution to an aspirational and rigorous culture of learning and educational excellence. 

It is a Term Time Only position (attending whenever Teachers are required at School), focused on the learning needs of students and supporting Teachers and other educators to develop and deliver exceptional levels of support to students.

Our Diverse Learning Assistants support students and staff by:

• Supporting the classroom teacher with the education of all students and specifically students with diverse learning needs 

• Attending to student and staff pastoral care 

• Professional learning, formation and growth 

• Cocurricular involvement with designated students so they can engage in programs outside formal classroom environments. 

• General and Administrative duties related to reporting and NCCD compliance. 

• Duty of Care and Child Safety responsibilities.

Selection Criteria: 

• Experience working with students with diverse learning needs or disabilities in a school setting. 

• Familiar with some targeted intervention strategies and learning programs. 

• Capacity to demonstrate an aptitude, experience or qualification for this position. 

• Extensive experience working with children that have disabilities through NDIS and NCCD funding is desirable. 

• Appropriate qualifications including, but not limited, to any of the following:

  • Certificate III in Education Support 

  • Certificate IV in Education Support 

  • Diploma of Education Support. 

Compliance Requirements: 

• Working With Children Check ‘E’ card. 

• Australian Childhood Foundation “Safeguarding Children” and all child safety requirements.  

• DET Mandatory Reporting and Other Obligations Training (annual update) 

• Australian Jesuits Code of Conduct and acceptance of the Code (on appointment) 

• First Aid accreditation including CPR, Anaphylaxis, Asthma Management (highly regarded).
