Our Position:
This role reports to the Director of the Junior School and is accountable for implementation of learning enhancement programs that address the diverse learning needs of Xavier College students across Prep - Year 6.
The Head of Diverse learning - Junior School is expected to work closely and add value to both curriculum and pastoral teams in the effective understanding and coordinated support of student needs. The role requires exceptional knowledge and understanding of the critical learning and cognitive elements that underpin effective and constructive learning and teaching practice. It is inclusive of the full spectrum of learners, while giving particular attention to those at lower and upper edges of learning functioning and capacity.
The Head of Diverse Learning - Junior School will work with all learning leaders to ensure an aspirational, positive and relational culture exists across students and staff. It is driven by a commitment to promote rigorous standards of educational and operational excellence and is especially attentive to all matters of child safety. This role will maintain close connection with the Head of Diverse Learning - Senior School.
Masters Level qualifications are considered essential and current experience in Literacy Intervention will be a distinct advantage in this appointment.
The role leads an enthusiatic team of Teachers and Diverse Learning Assistants across Prep - Year 6, collaborating with passionate educators across all years and subject areas.
The role is expected to model and foster contemporary approaches to pedagogy, assessment and a data informed approach through the lens of the needs of students experiencing learning difficulties and students who offer scope for extension. This work is underpinned by the principles of the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm.

The Head of Diverse Learning - Junior School is expected to:

model the highest standards of leadership, professional conduct and adherence to child safety standards

lead and establish professional standards for Diverse Learning programs and staff - contributing across all dimensions of the educational program, including academic, spiritual and pastoral.

support the Director of Junior Schoool, Deputy Director of Junior School, Head of Learning - Prep - Year 6, Homeroom and Specialist Teachers in each learning area, supporting the objectives of the Junior School.

lead and measure the impact of the creation of resources for various levels and specialist areas as applicable, differentiating learning to meet needs, undertaking continuous reporting, developing, administering, marking and providing feedback on assessment tools, course writing and documentation.

assist Diverse Learning staff in day to day operation of the team, demonstrating engagament and alignment with the goals of the Diverse Learning team at all Year levels and across all subject areas and various other programs.

contribute positively to the culture of the team, demonstrating respect for all colleagues and students.
